Rakiura Retreat

Whether you’re planning a three day hike or just heading down to the beach, our comfortable units provide a sanctuary at the end of an adventure-filled day. We enjoy beautiful views overlooking Braggs and Halfmoon Bays, and just outside your door, you’re sure to meet one of our visiting kākā, kiwi, tūī, kererū and other native birds.  Take a walk down our private staircase to Braggs Bay beach to view rapoka/NZ sealion lazing on the sand and kororā/little blue penguins waddling home at dusk.

Our unique island setting boasts native bush and gardens and an almost private pristine beach.  We are just minutes away from other beaches, bays, native gardens and close to the Rakiura National Park and several walks.

Our complimentary cars make exploring the island a breeze and you will access so much more than just walking out to the tracks from town. Peter and Estelle are local owner/operators, with over five generations of family history on Rakiura.  They are available to help you out with any extras you need during your stay.

Stewart Island

An hour by ferry or 20 minutes by plane, Stewart Island is the southern most Island of New Zealand. It is an unspoiled paradise covered in lush native bush, rain forests and rugged coastlines. Home to 20,000 kiwi, Stewart Island is protected by Rakiura National Park which covers 85% of the island.

The welcoming Stewart Island community supports  the Island’s Fishing, Aquaculture, Tourism and Conservation industries. The tight-knit population of around 400 residents live on the island, and many operators are working towards sustainability in order to protect the environment and our natural assets.
